GENEVA, NY – The Cornell Agriculture & Food Technology Park has announced that three new businesses will join its roster of tenants. The new companies reflect the core focus of the park in the areas of food and agriculture. Known as “The Technology Farm,” the park fosters economic development through the creation of innovative technologies that enhance the production of new products and processes related to food, beverages and agriculture.
The new tenants, Stony Brook Cookie Company, Organix Green Industries, LLC, and ZedX, Inc., will utilize The Technology Farm’s brand new 20,000 square foot business accelerator facility for their varied business needs. Each enterprise will also collaborate with Cornell University researchers to speed and enhance product development and innovation.
• Stony Brook Cookie Company will relocate to Geneva from the Boston, Massachusetts area. The company will grow its existing gourmet cookie business in a customized food laboratory facility at the park and looks forward to working with Cornell’s food science and nutrition experts to develop new, wholesome, all-natural baked products for both retail and commercial markets. The business is owned and operated by Cornell alumni Greg Woodworth and Kelly Coughlin.
• Organix Green Industries, LLC maker of organically produced fertilizers and soil amendment products to enhance plant growth ,offers the farm sector and public sector an economic solution to processing organic waste. With production facilities located in nearby Seneca Castle, NY, the company derives value by working closely with Cornell researchers and taking advantage of the business-related services available at The Technology Farm.
• ZedX, Inc. is a 20‐year‐old global corporation offering a wide range of information technology products with an emphasis on the development of weather‐dependent IT decision support products for the agriculture, environment and energy sectors. It has significant partnerships with U.S., European and African universities, governments and industries. Head‐ quartered in Bellefonte, PA, ZedX will utilize their new Geneva location to more closely interact with researchers at Cornell University and the Infotonics Technology Center in Canandaigua, New York. ZedX is headed by its President, Joseph M. Russo and CEO, Keith A. Wheeler, both Cornell alumnae.
“We are excited about the opportunity to relocate our growing business to The Technology Farm and the Finger Lakes region. We see great opportunities to work closely with Cornell researchers in order to develop high-quality, nutritious baked products”, commented Stony Brook’s Greg Woodworth. “The entire team associated with The Technology Farm has been wonderful to work with.”
The new enterprises will move onto the growing campus of The Technology Farm. In October, Governor George E. Pataki and Senator Michael F. Nozzolio announced $40 million in State funding to construct a new, state-of-the-art food laboratory at the Cornell Agriculture & Food Technology Park. In addition, design work is well underway for construction of the USDA Agricultural Research Service’s new, $25 million Grape Genetics Research Center, scheduled to begin construction in 2007.
“It is very encouraging to see the quality and diversity of enterprises choosing to locate at the Cornell Agriculture & Food Technology Park,” stated Dr. Robert Seem, president of the park.
The Cornell Agriculture & Food Technology Park is the result of nearly 10 years of planning by Cornell University, the City of Geneva and Ontario County. Since then, more than $10 million in local, state and federal funding has been raised to complete the early developments at the park. The park has also received considerable support from NYSEG (New York State Electric & Gas Corp.).
