Victor, NY - September 9, 2011 - NewPath Learning, LLC, award-winning developer of supplemental
education products for K-12 education, announces that it has been awarded a Phase I Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) grant totaling $169,000 by the National Institute of Health to develop and test
multimedia science lessons for use on Interactive Whiteboards.
NewPath will use the Phase I SBIR funds to test current prototypes as well as design and research additional
curriculum units. Designed specifica lly for use by Middle School and High School classes, each unit covers a
key, sta ndards-based topic through a series of lesson presentations, interactive activities, visual resources,
illustrated vocabu lary review and assessment questions. While the Phase I project will focus on the
development and refinement of prototype units, upon completion, NewPath will be eligible to apply for
Phase II funding that would enable extension of the line to cover an expanded product offering for
distribution both within the United States, as well as internationally.
"While Interactive Whiteboards have become increasingly common within the classroom, educators
continue to complain that they do not have the time or resources to develop high quality, interactive
content for their use," stated Kurt Gelke, NewPath's president. "As a result the full capabilities of the
technology are not fully tapped."
"We are extremely honored to be selected," continued Gelke. "In 2010, less than 11% of all applications
within the category were funded by NIH."
"Our development team, comprised of seasoned educators, scientific illustrators/animators and multimedia
programmers, will produce a series of lessons which are highly interactive and extremely engaging, yet also'
very affordable," said company co-founder, George Nassis, who will lead the project.
